The restaurant

Shiok was started in December 2003 to fill a void in gourmet-friendly Bangalore - a need for an authentic fine dining South-east Asian restaurant that was a break from the currified Indo-Chinese food so plentiful in the city. Shiok is on the centrally-located CMH Road in upmarket Indiranagar.

Food

Shiok serves exotic food from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and China. These countries have many elements, dishes, and principles in common. The passionately seasoned food appeals to the Indian palette. We import many of our key ingredients to maintain authenticity and a consistent high quality. Our raw materials - vegetables, meat, and seafood is delivered almost every day following a "just-in-time" inventory management systems to give you the freshest food possible.

With our commitment to quality dining, we do not use any MSG (ajinomoto) at all in our food. We believe good food does not need chemical enhancers to give it taste.

Ambience

The ambience of the restaurant was designed to give people privacy and comfort. Managing Director (and Chef) Madhu Menon was frustrated with crowded, noisy restaurants where people had to rub elbows with the other tables and listen to 10 other conversations. Our lighting is soft and mellow, with candle light on 2-seater tables, giving our customers the chance to sit down, relax, and enjoy their meal.

The combination of authentic Asian food, warm ambience, and location (there is abundant parking opposite the restaurant) makes Shiok a great location for a special meal.
